: Accessed via a Library database

Description: A journal article accessed via a Library database

Notes

  • Types of journal articles accessed via a Library database include those which are in PDF or HTML format.
  • When an article is accessed using an electronic database via the Library website, reference it as a standard journal article (see 'Journal article' in the Print section): do not include date viewed, URL, or refer to the database.
  • Page numbers are not always available in online documents. Include them where available.
  • If you are referencing a supplement, add ‘suppl.’ after the article title followed by the letter/number in question, for example:
    • Smith, B 2007, 'The effect of caffeine on sleep', suppl. B, Journal of Sleep, vol. 4, no. 3, pp. S3-S6.
  • When no volume or issue details are provided for the journal but the month of publication is (e.g. February, May), write the month in place of volume/issue details.
  • If the article is missing a volume, issue and pages numbers you can include the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) instead.
