Roadmap to Referencing

for use with Harvard-UniSA Style referencing

Journal article

: E-journal article

Description: An e-journal article accessed directly from an e-journal's website

  • When an article is accessed directly from the e-journal's own website, include date viewed and URL.
  • Note that conventions for volume, issue, and pagination may vary between online journals.
  • Page numbers are not always available in online documents. Include them where available.
  • If you are referencing a supplement, add ‘suppl.’ after the article title followed by the letter/number in question, for example:
    • Smith, B 2007, 'The effect of caffeine on sleep', suppl. B, Journal of Sleep, vol. 4, no. 3, pp. S3–S6.
  • When no volume or issue details are provided for the journal but the month of publication is (e.g. February, May), write the month in place of volume/issue details.
  • If the article is missing a volume, issue and pages numbers you can include the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) instead.
